If you’re dead set on getting dental veneers in order to improve the appearance of your smile, then you should take a minute to explore your other alternatives.
If the reason for why you want to have new veneers is so that you can conceal stained teeth, then you might consider going for teeth whitening treatments instead. The advantage of going for dental whitening procedures is that it is not invasive, does not damage the tooth that much and is more affordable. You can choose to go for in-office whitening treatments which give you immediate results or you can opt for the less expensive at-home whitening kits. However, you also have to take note of the extent of the discoloration. For instance, stubborn stains, such as when you’re taking in tetracycline for a long period of time or have dental fluorosis, could no longer be remedied with routine teeth whitening procedures.
At the same time, teeth whitening procedures only whiten your teeth but do not do anything about your bite nor does it solve other cosmetic problems like lengthening the crown. So if you have yellow plus gaps, you may find it more practical to go for dental veneers straight ahead.
Gaps are easily bridged with the help of veneers. These porcelain veneers could widen the two teeth in order to fill in the space in between them. However, this treatment only works if you already have a proper bite and it’s only that particular gap which is ruining it. If you have a gap plus overlapping or overcrowded teeth, then you should pick out orthodontic braces instead. This is because the veneers can only fill in the gap but it cannot solve your overall bite problem. The only drawback with orthodontic braces is that it takes a rather long time for the teeth to be moved into their proper places.
If you only have a very minor chip or barely noticeable cracks, then you can opt for dental bonding since it preserves much of the enamel tissue unlike when you have veneers. Since dental bonding preserves a large part of the tooth, small cavities can be filled in using white fillings instead while composite veneers can also help reshape a tooth with just one visit to the dentist, saving time as well as a huge portion of your teeth’s natural protective layer.
